Listen to this: Water Walk performed by John Cage

10.21.10

What is striking to me is how apologetic the host of the show is. He is constantly making sure the audience is prepared for Cage’s outlandish piece.

Sure, it’s strage to see a man water a vase of roses and call it music, but if you listen to it there’s no doubt it is carefully planned and organized sound.

Looks interesting. I am glad there are enough programers out there who saw a niche for this project, because it is sorely needed. My friend David MacDonald should be deleting his install of Sibelius right about now.

Walled gardens, or whatever.

Listen to this: Tristan Perich

10.4.10

Sometimes you open up your Twitter feed on a Monday morning and amidst the poorly formed Cathyisms there lies a single jewel that will make your brain feel like butter in a chaffing dish. For me, today was that Monday morning.

May I present: qsqsqsqsqqqqqqqqq for three toy-pianos and three one-bit tones.

Mr. Perich’s most recent release on Cantaloupe, 1-Bit Symphony, has received widespread critical acclaim. The five-movement work is contained on one microchip, and a hand-built electronic circuit housed in a traditional CD jewel case “performs” the music live through a headphone jack mounted into the case.1

Boy, do I love this. Now, if you will excuse me, I have listened to this about 50 times and my brain is the consistency of a lava-lamp.
